Genogram uses recognised conventions inside a Pebble workspace, so a family structure is held as records rather than as a picture someone once drew.
The practice problem
Genograms are usually drawn once, in a tool that was never meant for family information. Six months later nobody is certain whether the shapes still describe the family, or only the diagram.
Pebble holds the family as structured records, and draws from them. The picture follows the information rather than replacing it.
Recognised conventions
Genogram follows the conventions practitioners already know, so a map made in Pebble can be read by a colleague, a manager or a court without a key or an explanation.
How it is held
Adult relationships and child family connections are structured records. Free connectors are there for annotation, and a connector never quietly becomes a family relationship.
Moving something on the canvas never changes who is related to whom. Tidying a layout is a layout change, not a change to the family.
Family Builder
Family Builder is the way most people will add a family. It works in a fixed order, and it shows you what it is about to do before it does it.
It inspects the people and relationships already recorded, so an existing person is reused rather than duplicated.
It shows you the structure it is proposing, as a final review, before anything is created.
It creates the family atomically, so you never end up with half a family recorded because something failed midway.
Every child is given two parent positions. An unknown parent is stated as unknown rather than left as a gap.
